Jeff –
As a long time fan of Brooks running shoes, I was excited to receive my Cascadia GTX, as I needed something waterproof/resistant. I love the styling of these shoes, and traction on these are absolutely amazing. Even walking down hills with lots of leaves and underbrush, these feel almost as planted at cleats. It hasn’t rained since I received the shoes, so I can’t comment on the water resistant properties of the GTX shoes yet.
The comfort of the shoes is pretty decent when on trails or other soft surfaces, but is pretty hard on pavement or other hard surfaces, which given these are trail shoes makes sense, just wish they were a little more comfortable for everyday use.
The biggest issue I have with these is they seem to run narrower than every other pair of Brooks running shoe I’ve owned. I’m still breaking them in, and messing with the lacing, but these just feel tighter than I was expecting. If you have wider than average feet, they might be too tight for you.

Normally GTX shoes feel a bit smaller than regular ones (due to the membrane I guess), but these surprisingly feel larger. Also, they feel a lot stiffer and somewhat heavier than I expected after reading reviews on the web. It’s a good trail running shoe, but not excellent.

Really wanted to like this shoe but couldn’t find a pair that worked. I first ordered an 11.5, my normal shoe size, even though Zappos recommended an 11. Width felt good, but it just seemed a little long. So I returned it. Followed Zappos’ recommended sizing and ordered an 11. Length was good, but the 11 felt really narrow and hurt my feet. Build quality looked great on both pair, almost bomb-proof. I really like Brooks shoes, but couldn’t keep this model. Returned.

This shoe got me over the Camino de Santiago – a 500 mile hike in Spain. Great choice for hikers.
